The progressive comic about Trump's tariffs.

Into the Abyss of the Void

Let's be clear...

A man who should be sitting in federal lockup, if not one in El Salvador, for financial fraud has created a ruinous economic plan for a country that had just made a soft landing from a recession that he himself caused five years ago.

The stupid. It hurts. It's hurts SOOOOOO bad.

---------------

Trump's tariff plan has a strong "inject bleach" vibe, doesn't it?

---------------

Trump said his tariff's "will cause pain, but it'll be worth it." By that he means the big investors will feel a slight sting as their portfolios dip a percentage point or two but they know the nervous small investors are cashing out now. and these are the shares the Bigs will be buying cheap by Monday.

---------------

Remember when Trump promised to pardon all but the worst J6 offenders but, in the end, pardoned them all? It turned out that going through each of the convicted's records one-by-one was just tooooooo harrrrrrrd. So he freed them all.

So now Trump has placed tariffs on every country and seemingly every chunk of rock jutting out of the ocean, lumping them together using a completely fabricated algorithm based on products exported divided by products imported (or something).

That's because applying tariffs fairly was just toooooo harrrrrrrrrrrd. He, after all, has golfing tournaments to win.

---------------

Back in 2008, while Dubya's economic catastrophe was in full-throated flower, there were voices among the Conservative's saying that we should let the suffering auto manufacturers die on the vine, most notably one Mitt Romney, once-erstwhile presidential candidate.

Currently Trump's tariffs are sending financial shock waves through the auto industry, almost as though they are the intended target. One might then ask "What is it Republicans have against the auto industry?"

I'll tell ya.... it's the unions.

Corporations just hate it when the roiling rabble can use their collective power for fair wages and safe working conditions. What better way to destroy the unions than to destroy the auto companies. All except Elon's, of course.

---------------

One more thing about the confluence of cars and tariffs:

Higher car prices mean higher insurance costs. And since the insurance companies invest your premiums in the stock market they may find themselves having to cancel policies to keep the shareholders from storming the castle.

Happy motoring.

This story is a bit late, but...

My best/worst April Fools prank occurred back around 2001 when I was part of an early social media site on which users were allowed to post images along with their comments. As it was 25 years ago the images were, of course, small JPEGs or GIFs. As each page of comments loaded it also had to render all of the images. Keep that in mind.

On each of my posts, dozens or hundreds of them, I included a small signature image, a JPEG of about 50kb, which I served from my ISP. Keep that in mind.

On April 1st, in an era when high-speed internet was just a dream for most people, I replaced that small image with a 5GB image using the same file-name. The web site suddenly had to serve a ton of these images, all at once, on hundreds of pages.

You could almost hear the web site slide to a screeching halt before it plowed into a metaphorical brick wall.

The site's users quickly determined who was at fault and I was publicly castigated though I think they would have preferred castration and/or crucifixion. The mods almost immediately revised their rules for image posting.

I didn't get away clean as I paid a small price for my folly. You see, my ISP at the time limited my data and my monthly allotment was entirely used up within minutes on that one day.

Totally worth it.

Leftastic News for April 3, 2025

Where to start? Oh, how about "Trump doesn't study history and has no idea what a tariff is"?

There will be a nationwide protest against Trump this Saturday. Be there!

Republicans: "Ohhhhh fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!"

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is bad at his job.

"That'll be $3800 for the leopard-powered face-eating. Will that be cash, check, charge, or bankruptcy?"
